In Australia I worked one year at burger king (In high school I told a friend that I would never ever work for McD or BK). Working as a cashier at burger king is not much fun. But sometimes there would come someone who would say “Hi Alf, how are you?” (we all wear nametags). Just having someone say my name, and not treat me like crap made a big difference.

I try to say the persons name if they wear a nametag, and generally trying to be nice, because I know how big difference it can make to that person (too often I just grunt “Hi”). People just light up when you treat them like humans.

I dare you to be nice to a cashier!
