Kindle 2 tilgjengelig i Norge, “gamle” Kindle ubrukelig?

Nå er endelig Kindle 2 tilgjengelig i Norge, uten at du må sette jord og himmel i bevegelse for å få tak i den. Jeg skrev tidligere en guide om hvordan du kan få Kindle 2 til Norge. Nå er det ikke lenger nødvendig, amazon sender Kindle rett til Norge. Det blir heller ikke noe problem å kjøpe bøker.

Men det kan se ut som vi som allerede har kjøpt Kindle får problemer. Har fått noen kommentarer fra folk som har prøvd å kjøpe bøker uten hell. Prøvde akkurat selv, men det gikk ikke. Noen med “gamle” Kindle som klarer å kjøpe bøker?

Bryr du deg om hva som skjer rundt deg?

Hva tenker du når du leser på VG.no at 4000 kan være begravd i ruiner i Sumatra? Tenker du at det er noen som har mistet en mor, søster eller datter? Angår det oss hva som skjer på den andre siden av jordkloden?

Apple has almost won me over

I’ve had iPhone since dec 2007 now. I’ve loved the phone, it’s by far the best phone i’ve ever had. Despite that in the beginning it lacked mms, video recording, 3g and so on, iPhone 1st gen has served me very well. My dad now wants to buy my phone, so i’m looking for a new one. But is there anything other than the iPhone out there worth to consider?

Earlier when i’ve considered buying a new phone I looked at the specs on the phone. I needed to have all the newest technologies. At first when I was buying a new phone in 2007, I didn’t even consider the iPhone because of the lacks in technology. But after a 5 min demonstration with the phone I was sold (I did help that I got it straight from the US for 2000kr).

Now I need a new one. But I look for more than the newest technologies now. I am now addicted to the iPhone interface, I love downloading podcasts straight to my phone, I love getting the most useless apps straight from the appstore on the iPhone and I love surfing webpages on it. Not to mention the fact that new software now always comes first to the iPhone.

There is one phone that I am considering instead of the iPhone: Samsung Omnia HD

This has pretty much everything you need. 8mpx camera, filming in HD, 3,8 inch screen and so on. But can I really give up the iPhone?

Howto know which day of the week any date in history was/will be

This is pretty much the most awesome skill ever. I don’t even know why I tell it to you. With this skill girls will beg you to be their boyfriend (also boys will beg girls to be their girlfriend). Use this skill with care. I don’t take any responsebility for the awesomeness that will occur in your life.

Example: You will learn which day of the week 2.january 1986 was (it was a thursday)

Here it goes:

The first thing you need is to that each day of the week is assigned a unique number.

Monday: 1, Tuesday:2, Wedensday: 3, Thursday: 4, Friday:5, Saturday:6, Sunday:7/0.

Every month is assigned a unique number:

January: 6 (5 in leap year) (Rule to remember: W-I-N-T-E-R has six letters)
February: 2 (1 in leap year) (Rule to remember: 2nd month of the year)
March: 2 (Rule to remember: 2nd beat of the drum)
April: 5 (Rule to remember: A-P-R-I-L has five letters)
May: 0 (Rule to remember: May-0)
June: 3 (Rule to remember: June B-U-G has three letters)
July: 5 (Rule to remember: Watching FIVER-works)
August:1 (Rule to remember: Begins with A, 1st letter)
Sept: 4 (Rule to remember: Start of F-A-L-L)
Oct: 6 (Rule to remember: Halloween T-R-I-C-K-S)
Nov: 2 (Rule to remember: 2 servings of TUrkey please!)
Dec: 4 (Rule to remember: L-A-S-T month

Remembering these months is the hardest part of the trick, but it actually just takes 2 min to learn. Now to the easy part.
Every year has a yearcode. 2006 yearcode is 0. To calculate the day of the week for dec 3, 2006:
Month code + Date +Yearcode = 4 + 3 + 0 = 7. Hence this date will be on day 7, which is Sunday.

What about Nov 18, 2006? Nov has a month code of 2 we have: 2 + 18 + 0 = 20. We then subract any multiple of 7 from our answer. We then get 6. Hence Nov 18 2006 occurs on Saturday.

Not all yearcodes are zero. But they are easy to calculate. Days after year 2000:
2000 + x years. We take the number x/4 (ignoring any remainder) and add that to x. The year code can be reduced by subracting any multiple of 7.
Example: With 2061, we that 61/4 = 15 (with a remainder of 1 that we ignore). Thus 2061 has a year code of 61+15 = 76. We subract any multiple of 7. 76-70 = 6

Hence March 19, 2061 has: 2 + 19 + 6 + = 27. 27 - 21 = 6. Which is a saturday.

For dates between 1900-1999 you do exactly the same. Just that you add one to your yearcode.
It might be helpful to learn the multiples of 7 to calculate faster: 7,14,21,28,35,42,49,56,63,70,77,84,91,98,105,112,119,126.

Awesome weekend in Grimstad!

This weekend I spent in Grimstad with two friends. Had loads of fun!

We spent a few hours wakeboarding and waterskiing. My only problem was that I could not get up. I first tried 7-8 times with the wakeboard. No chance, I guess my technique is not good enough. I’m reading this guide for next time!

We also watched the newest Harry Potter at the local cinema. It was pretty good, but if you haven’t read the book, you really need to do it. In my opinion there was to much love mumble jumble in it. I get it, they are teens and what to teens do? They fall in love, but why do they have to squeese some of it in every possible scene? But other than that I enjoyed it.

I’m not much of a boardgame player, but I tried to different games this weekend that I can really recommend:

A friend gave me a ride with his motorcycle to the airport, on my way home. Awesome!

Humor on the internet

Have you ever told someone a story that you thought were funny, only to realize when you are done telling it that you could not get the funny point across?

Happens to me all the time, and I just say “well, you would have to be there for it to be funny”.

Humor on the internet is somehow even harder. Sure those smilies might help get the point across : ;/, lol, rofl and so on. But in real life when you tell a story, you never start laughing before the story is over. The same goes for the internet, it’s not as funny if you have to use smilies to get the point across.

Does anyone have a solution for me?

PS: I tried to find a funny illustration for this post, but could not find any. Need something better than Google (didnt find anything on Bing either)
